Hugh Gibbons of Just1 says: I'm told it's proper to have aims. For someone with a foraging butterfly mind like me, that's debatable. And besides, I just have the aim of providing a simple helping hand where possible. But for those of you who like that sort of thing, here's the sort of thing you'll like - though you may find they bring a bit of a difference. To provide anyone in the UK with simple, easy and imaginative events to show solidarity with the poor of the world – for example, by offering a set of Promises to the Poor to stand up and share in gatherings large and small as a contribution to the annual 50 Days of Global Action Against Poverty. To provide the UK government with good news of the strength of humanitarian values and concern of their present and future citizens about the poor of the world – by offering reports of values shown Just1 StandUp events, and by inviting local and national politicians to take part. To provide UK and other NGOs and other professional campaigners with general background support for specific humanitarian campaigns – by staging complementary activities and offbeat ways of addressing their key audiences. To provide teaching staff in UK schools with a useful extra element to their PHSE, RE and Citizenship education – by offering some suggested activities for pupils, classroom and other staff, parents, governors, alumni and education administrators, and SACRE members. To provide leaders of faith gatherings and other groups with a simple opportunity to set good examples of ecumenism – by offering a common and co-ordinated set of activities, Promises to the Poor, and voices to governments. To provide local, national and other media with a stream of good news stories – by offering a range of news releases from schools and elsewhere |
