The Just1 2009 StandUps Against Poverty and for the UN Millennium Development Goals
This page tells you about the basics of how schools can play a big part

Schools Sign Up Against Poverty
enrol and be counted as a 2009 StandUp School

Find five minutes to enrol during the summer term
in good time for Friday 16th October -
so you don't miss out in all the rush at the start
of the new school year in the autumn

Enrol by e-mail or paper mail:
just send in some basic school information to Just1

Enrol for this year's StandUp, and that'll also do nicely for StandUps in years ahead - unless you say otherwise sometime. Each year you'll be given the chance to adjust your basic information. And keep in mind that everything is completely voluntary, free, and adaptable to your circumstances and setting.

There are two reasons.  It'll help Hugh if you register as soon as possible - and certainly by the end of the summer term.

There's a form for you to fill in and return if you want (see above right). If it takes someone longer than 10 minutes, they're doing it wrong.

1.
Nominate someone as your preferred e-mail contact
.
This might perhaps be your Head Teacher, or Secretary, or a topic co-ordinator.
Your e-mail address won't be shared with anyone else unless it's obviously in the public domain (eg on your website). It'll just be used by Just1 to send you occasional updates - and yearly reminders about StandUps!

2.
Tell Just1 you'd like to join in!
just by emailing hughgibbons@just1.org.uk with the basic information below or sending in the form on the right.

3.
Send in some basics about your school
which will be put up on the StandUp Schools lists elsewhere on this Just1 website. It's in the public domain.  What's needed?

  • your school or college name and full postal address

  • the school's education level (eg primary, middle, secondary)

  • your denomination if you're a faith school (and the diocese you're in if CofE or Catholic)

  • whether you're in the state system or independent

  • your school website URL

  • the name of any school overseas you're specially linked with

  • and anything else you'd like to include that shows something of your humanitarian ethos - such as being a FairTrade or Eco School.

4.
NB Include your School Count - your best guesstimated number of everyone likely to be standing on 16 October
This is the total you anticipate will take part in the StandUp in the school on 16 October 2009 - and perhaps subsequent years. To the nearest 20 or so, it would usually include pupils, teaching and other staff, and others such as governors and any parents likely to be around on the day.

We'll log this information and put it on the webpages as soon as possible.

JUSTGIVING GOVERNORS?
Enrolling and being a StandUp School is entirely free. But school governing bodies and other wellwishers might like to stand up and take action - with a £1 per head collection perhaps at your next full governors' meeting, to send directly on-line to any of these aid agencies. If you have another to suggest, let us know.
