This page tells you how school music teachers and pupils can make a much-valued contribution

Sing Out Against Poverty!

Compose your own StandUp School song -
to perform anytime, anywhere

Any time from now on, StandUp Schools might like to make up their own song to the simple words below.  It's something to engage many minds - musical or otherwise.

All sorts of fitting tunes may come to mind.

You can do it as a class, or whole school. It might be sung in unison, or as a round, or with soloists. And there's certainly some scope for actions, syncopation, and volume!

One suggestion is to song as you leave assembly - giving you something to sing as you go off to classrooms.

And if you feel like posting it on YouTube or elsewhere, that's fine.  Just tell Hugh by e-mail if you do. He'll post a link on your entry in the StandUp School Tables.

And there might be some way of judging the best - and making some little awards...

You might also like to engage your local radio station, who'll probably be delighted to take your on board.

of the Millennium Development Goals.

on  "Mission Ustaad," a blockbuster
television program in India with
the mission of "making a difference
by promoting the Millennium
Development Goals."
Rahman has also performed
at an anti-poverty concert in Delhi,
launched an anti-poverty song entitled
"Pray for Me Brother"
and appeared in

Here are are the standard StandUp words.
If you want to vary the order or alter them a bit, feel free to do so.

We stand up
We stand up
We stand up against poverty
We stand up
We stand up
Count on us!

Ideally, changing each verse to include actions!

We speak out...
We sing out...
We shout out...
We stand up...

And if you want, you can add in somewhere
East, West, North, South

You can also add simple words like Yes!

Good composing!
